PARIACCACCA – INCA TRAIL 4D / 3N
Take
the opportunity to discover one of the Peru’s hidden treasures! Walk the ancient inca trail at the foot of the sacred mountain Pariaccacca and feel the power of
this great Apu – mountain god. Admire the impressive stone work of the Incas as
well as prehistoric cave paintings. This trek takes you through the harsh but
picturesque region of high Andes with numerous lakes where you will be able to
observe herds of llamas and alpacas or even the delicate vicuña, which is often
called the Lady of the Andes. Higher up you will meet the quick viscachas
(marmots) and maybe even see pumas from far away. Meet the local people and
learn about their life in this harsh environent. Be one of the few who get to
visit this region and discover the true Peru.
Day 1:
From Huancayo we set out early in the
morning in a bus going to La Oroya. We stop at the crossroad of Pachacayu and
change to a hired car that will take us closer to the mountains. We begin our
trek a little bit after passing Hacienda Cochas at the altitude of 4,200 m asl.
We walk on the ancient Inca Trail, which is a part that united the mountains
with the cost, Jauja with Pachacamac (Lima). As we slowly make our way up we
admire the snowy peaks of Mt. Tunsho and Pariaccacca. We make camp by the
Acococha Lake (4,650m asl).
Day 2:
Following the inca trail we reach the
highest point of the trek at 4812m asl. From there we begin to descend to take a
rest at the Cuchimachay where we admire one of the most impressive cave
paintings of Peru. The pictures of up to 2 meters large portray llamas, alpacas
and vicuñas. According to specialists some may date as far back as 10,000 years,
but most of them are more resent, though none the less interesting. From there
we enter the zone of Escaleryoc which counts about 1800 stony steps, down to the
impressive lake Mullococha. We set camp by the lake.
Day 3:
We traverse high over the lake
Mullococha observing its beautiful colors and an island in the center. We have
to climb up to 4700m to cross the ridge and enter the neighboring valley with
the peaceful village of Tanta which is our destination for today. We will stay
at a simple but homey hostel “El Tanenito”.
Day 4:
Today we have some time to get to know
the village of Tanta and its habitants. We will also take a short hike to the
waterfalls of Tanta. In the early afternoon we catch a bus or a truck going to
Jauja. From there it’s less then an hour ride to Huancayo.
